NYSTCE 109/110 – School Building Leader (SBL) Practice Exam

A school building leader assesses the effectiveness of educational programs through systematic evaluation methods because this approach ensures that assessments are comprehensive, objective, and based on a variety of measurable criteria. Systematic evaluation involves the collection and analysis of data from multiple sources, such as student performance metrics, curriculum reviews, teacher feedback, parent surveys, and classroom observations.

This method allows the school leader to gain a holistic understanding of the program's impact on student learning and engagement. Evaluations can include standardized assessments, formative assessments, and qualitative feedback, which collectively provide a clearer picture of the program's strengths and weaknesses. By employing these structured procedures, the school building leader can make informed decisions about program adjustments, professional development needs, and resource allocation, ultimately leading to improved educational outcomes.

Engaging only with teachers through interviews, depending solely on test scores, or relying on informal discussions can lead to incomplete or biased conclusions. These methods lack the rigor and breadth of analysis necessary to accurately evaluate educational programs.
